We know Essex County

Local knowledge, local presence

Essex County runs from the Newark waterfront to the Watchung hills. Old urban triple-deckers in Newark, Victorian-era homes in Montclair and Maplewood, mid-century split-levels in Cedar Grove. We're licensed, insured, and dispatched from a Newark hub that handles Essex calls within 30 minutes on average.

Essex County housing patterns

Issues we see weekly here

Essex County's housing stock has its own quirks. After 17 years of working in these towns, we recognize problems before the homeowner has to explain them.

01

Galvanized pipe corrosion

Pre-1960 homes in Newark, East Orange, and Belleville often have galvanized supply lines. Slow flow, rusty water, and pinhole leaks are the symptoms — we re-pipe in copper or PEX.

02

Victorian-era radiator systems

Montclair and Maplewood Victorians have ornate cast-iron radiators worth keeping. We service the boiler and circulators without replacing the radiators.

03

Combo system retrofits

Many Essex homes are converting from boiler + tank water heater to combi-boiler systems. We size, install, and tune them for both heat and DHW.

04

Older AC ductwork

Original 1960s ductwork in Caldwell and West Orange splits is leaky and undersized. We test, seal, and recommend appropriate AC sizing.

Essex County customer
I had three other companies tell me I needed a new boiler. Rescue's tech found it was a $400 zone valve. Saved me $9,000.

Caldwell basement after a March storm

A real call we ran in Caldwell — what same-day flood response actually looks like and why a battery backup matters more than a bigger primary pump.

2 inches of standing water · finished basement

Heavy March rainstorm hit Caldwell hard. Customer's primary sump pump — a 12-year-old Zoeller — had been running fine until the float switch finally seized. By the time they noticed, two inches of water were spreading across the finished basement carpet. Bigger problem hiding in plain sight: Caldwell loses power 2-3 times every winter and they had no battery backup. Two failure modes, not one.

The fix — primary + battery backup

Bailed standing water out with a portable pump first to get the area workable. Replaced the failed primary with a Zoeller M53 cast-iron submersible (7-year warranty, made in Pennsylvania, built for the kind of grit and groundwater you get in NJ basements). Added a battery-backup pump on a separate basin port — runs off a marine deep-cycle battery, kicks in automatically when the AC primary stops. Re-piped the discharge with proper check valves and an air-gap to prevent freeze-back.

3 hours on-site · maintenance club added

Total time on-site: 3 hours. Customer signed up for our maintenance club afterward, so we'll inspect both pumps every spring and fall — that's when float switches usually start to seize, and we catch them before the next storm. Total invested in the dual-pump system: under $1,800 installed, including the battery, charger, and re-piping.
