Plumber & HVACin Ringwood, New Jersey.
Ringwood is almost entirely detached single-family homes, spread between Ringwood State Park, the Wanaque Reservoir and a string of private lake communities. About two-thirds of them were built between 1950 and 1979, and the borough runs its own water system from four wells.

Homes & neighborhoods
Ringwood neighborhoods and the homes we work in
Ringwood is a town of houses. The borough's 2025 housing plan counts 97.8% of homes as single-family detached, with no buildings of five or more units at all. The same plan shows most of them built in the 1950s and 1960s, about 52% across those two decades, with about 15% more from the 1970s and about 12% from before 1940.
Many of the older neighborhoods grew up around water. The housing plan notes that the R-20 zone "contains many of the historic lake communities in Ringwood," and private lake communities operate at Stonetown, Cupsaw Lake, the Erskine Lakes and Skyline Lakes. The 2020 Census also counted 46 Ringwood homes held for seasonal, recreational or occasional use. If your house started out as a seasonal place, the things worth checking are what was added later: heat in rooms that were once unheated, supply lines in crawl spaces, and drain lines extended as the house grew.
A house from the 1950s or 1960s has usually had its boiler or furnace replaced at least once, while the piping, radiators or ductwork behind it are often original. Ringwood is in PSE&G's gas service territory, but that doesn't mean there is a main on every road. If your home heats with oil or propane and gas is on your street, an oil-to-gas conversion is worth pricing. If it isn't, a ducted heat pump is the other option, with rebates through your electric utility. We repair and replace both boilers and furnaces.
If your house heats with hot-water baseboard, it may have no ductwork at all. Central air in that case means finding routes for ducts through an attic or closets, and we price central AC installation on what the house will actually allow.

Ringwood runs its own water system. The borough's water department serves about 3,214 customers from four wells, at Beattie Lane, Valley Road, Brooksyde Avenue and Cannici Drive. In 2024 those wells supplied about 80% of the water; the other 20% was bought from the Passaic Valley Water Commission, drawn from the Wanaque Reservoir and treated at the North Jersey District Water Supply Commission plant in Wanaque.
With 4,364 housing units in the borough at the 2020 Census, not every home is on that system. The borough's 2025 housing plan also states that "the Borough lacks public sewer," and the borough's newsletter reminds residents that routine septic inspection and pumping protects "your wells, lakes and the environment." If your house is on a well and septic, we handle the plumbing and heating inside the house. We don't work on wells or septic systems.
Electric service is split between JCP&L and Rockland Electric, each serving part of the borough. Long outages are part of the record here: JCP&L's November 7, 2012 update after Hurricane Sandy still listed November 11 as the estimated restoration date for Ringwood.
A long outage stops a sump pump unless it has battery backup, and on a private well it stops the water too. For freeze protection, know where your main shutoff is, keep heat in rooms with plumbing on outside walls, and insulate supply lines in crawl spaces. If a pipe does burst, our 24/7 dispatch sends emergency pipe repair to Ringwood under the same commitment as everywhere else: a technician within 90 minutes of your call or $50 off. Ringwood is well north of our Haledon shop, so that commitment is what we quote you, not a shorter window.
Permits
Permits in Ringwood: what's required and who files
Most equipment replacements fall under New Jersey's minor work rule, N.J.A.C. 5:23-2.17A. Replacing a water heater with one of like capacity, or a boiler, furnace or central air unit with one of equivalent capacity, counts as minor work. Notice goes to the borough before the work starts, the permit application follows within five business days, and an inspection is still required. In plain English: the job can start the same day, the paperwork follows, and an inspector still checks the work. New gas lines, relocated equipment and new electrical circuits go through the regular permit process instead.
Ringwood's Building Department is on the first floor of the municipal building at 60 Margaret King Avenue, and the number for permits and inspections is 973-962-7880. The borough's fall 2024 newsletter asks that emergency boiler, furnace and water heater replacements be reported to the department before installation, with permits submitted within three days afterward. When a job requires a permit, we file it, and we tell you up front whether yours does.
Our NJ permits guide explains the process in more detail, and our Passaic County page covers the rest of the county.
When a replacement needs a permit, Rescue files it and coordinates the inspection. Straight repairs usually don't need one, and we tell you which yours is before you commit.
Before we arrive
An emergency in Ringwood: what to do first
Three things that limit the damage while the van is on the way.
Water: shut the main
A burst pipe or a failed water heater is usually stopped at the main shutoff, typically where the water line enters the basement. Our shutoff guide shows how to find it. Then call us.
Gas smell: get out first
Don't flip switches or use the phone inside. Leave the house, then call your gas utility's emergency line or 911 from outside. Once the utility has made it safe, we handle the repair. See gas line service.
No heat: three quick checks
Check the thermostat batteries and setting, the furnace or boiler switch and breaker, and a clogged filter on a furnace. If it's still down, call. No heat in freezing weather gets a van now, any hour. See furnace repair.

Rebates in Ringwood
Which rebates apply depends on your electric utility. JCP&L and Rockland Electric each serve part of Ringwood, and each runs its own program with incentives on qualifying heat pumps and heat pump water heaters. For an oil or propane home, those programs are worth asking about when we price a heat pump. If you are a PSE&G gas customer, ask whether PSE&G's program covers your equipment. Amounts and rules change, so we check the current program for your account before quoting.
The federal 25C tax credit for this equipment ended December 31, 2025, so the utility programs are what remain. Current details are on our NJ rebates page.

Plumbing and HVAC in Ringwood: the questions we get
Do you service oil heat in Ringwood?
Yes. We repair and replace oil-fired boilers and furnaces as well as gas equipment. For an oil home we can also price the alternatives: an oil-to-gas conversion if PSE&G gas is on your street, or a ducted heat pump if it isn't.
Is Ringwood too far for a night call?
No. Dispatch runs 24/7 with a live person answering, and an emergency in Ringwood gets the same commitment as anywhere else we serve: a technician within 90 minutes of your call or $50 off. Ringwood is well north of our Haledon shop, so for routine work we schedule a window we can keep rather than promise a fast arrival.
My home isn't on the borough water system. Can you still help?
Yes, with the plumbing and heating inside the house: supply piping, fixtures, water heaters, drains, boilers and furnaces. We don't work on wells or septic systems, so if the problem is the well or the septic itself, we'll tell you and you'll need a well or septic contractor for that part.
How fast can you get to an emergency in Ringwood?
Dispatch runs 24 hours a day with a real person answering, and an emergency in Ringwood goes out from our shop at 2 John St in Haledon. Our published commitment is a technician on site within 90 minutes of your emergency call, or $50 off the job.
What does a visit cost?
The diagnostic is $79. A licensed technician finds the actual problem and prices the repair in writing before any work starts. Go ahead with the job and the $79 comes off the total; decide not to, and $79 is all you pay.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. NJ Master HVACR Contractor License #19HC00145700, bonded, and insured with $2M in liability coverage. Our technicians are background-checked, and the work carries a one-year parts and labor warranty.
